BART Berryessa Station  :  San Jose, CA

A design/build project to be constructed by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), Berryessa is the initial station for the extension of BART to San Jose. The unique location of the station that has an historical association with water and the hills beyond is reflected in the station design elements. The wave-like canopy structure, the unobstructed views, the minimal use of solid walls, glass, open mesh panels, and clear sight lines reinforce the relationship with the environment and give the station a feeling of openness, continuity, and safety. Careful integration of the concourse level with the main entry plaza design enhances this concept and provides connectivity to the area surrounding this intermodal transit station.
